Pit Bull Myths

There are any number of crazy myths that surround the pit bull and keep him down! These are some of the most common:

  • Pit bulls have locking jaws.
  • Not true! Pit bulls’ jaws function just like any other domestic dog.
  • Pit bulls “turn” suddenly, attacking in rage.
  • Not true! Whenever we hear of an attack, there are almost always warning signs beforehand. Most attacks are preventable.
  • Pit bulls have a bagillion pounds of biting pressure.
  • Not true! There is no scientific evidence to support this baloney.
  • Pit bulls are vicious.
  • Not true! According to the ATTS, pit bulls are one of the highest scoring breeds taking their widely accepting temperament test.
  • Only dog fighters use treadmills and springpoles.
  • Not true! Though dog fighters may utilize them, these are excellent methods of exercise for any dog owner.
